Customer Review :
Nothing can beat it. : Sony Reader Touch Edition - Black (PRS650BC)
I bought my sony reader in October 2010, taking me 3 years to decide to buy an ebook reader. My experience so far with it:
Positive aspects:
================
* compatible with many formats (epub, word (rtf), txt and pdf n others) => it allows you to borrow ebooks from public libraries, buy from many bookstores, transfer scanned books and convert in word (eg by scanning texts using free OCR), and read pdf (not bad in landscape mode).
* many dictionaries available with easy access=> easy to look up a word; just double clicked it.
* possible to highlight,make annotations and drawings, add many bookmarks as you want, search for words in the ebook.
* news/blogs for free => using calibre (eg New York Times, Economist, CBC News, Canadian/European/South American/Asian newspapers-all free).
* beautiful screen (no glare);
* 2 card slots: SD and sony memory card;
* high quality, beautiful, durable device (robust);
* light, sleek and small device;
* touch screen (with optional stylus);
* mp3 player & pictures.
* and depending on where you are, you can go to a physical Sony store to complain or exchange merchandise if one day you need.
Negative aspects:
================
* no wireless;
* expensive;
* sony software is not ideal for managing many many ebooks.
Well, if you want something to read an ebook, nothing can beat it. It does what an ebook reader is supposed to do. I have around 1,000 books in my calibre and 500 books in my sony reader. Once I added 1,000 into it (poor baby) but then it got slow to select ebooks. So I try to keep my reader with 400-500 ebooks at the same time ...
Buy a case: you will need it. The best cases for me: one that is manufactured by sony with light (but it is a bit heavy)and Tuff-Luv.
